The No Kill Solutions Conference May 3-4 with Nathan Winograd was a sell out, www.movetoact.org . One hundred and twenty five attendees from throughout the country left with renewed hope and inspiration that their own community's sheltering system IS capable of implementing simple, alternative solutions to current kill practices defended by leaders who continue to resist change. Also realized is that old ways of thinking do not give up easily even when the stakes are high and the alternative is easy.

You may be familiar with the story of Ignaz Semmelweis and the tragedy of Child Bed Fever. In the 1800's mothers were dying at an alarming rate in hospitals. Dr Semmelweis proposed a very simple solution...have the doctors just wash their hands. But guess what, that idea was rejected as crazy and he was fired from the hospital! Semmelweis was not acknowledged for his contribution to medicine until long after his death. Old ways of thinking do not give up easily even when the stakes are high and the alternative is easy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ignaz_Semmelweis
